The owners of this canal side property wanted a family garden with a swimming pool and plenty of space to play and entertain. The site was a jumble of over-mature trees and shrubs with outdated paving and awkward access from the house. The garden needed a sensitive design that didn’t dominate the space; uniting a modern home and pool within semi-rural setting. Materials were selected for a clean, contemporary feel; limestone paving and a sleek hardwood deck provides a smooth transition between house and garden, a plant room clad in cedar and a sedum roof neatly houses all the pool plant and equipment. The relaxed planting scheme extends throughout the garden; tall perennials and grasses screen the playhouse and trampoline, with a large lawned area for ball games. Carefully considered poolside borders allow ‘filtered’ views of the pool from the house with texture and colour throughout the year.
